Monkey Bread Recipe

Posted on | July 10, 2008

Here is a quick and easy recipe for Monkey Bread that your kids will LOVE! .  I use frozen biscuit dough, like Pillsbury, to make my Monkey Bread.  I suppose you could make your own dough, but the frozen stuff works great.  So, here is what you will need:

3 packages frozen biscuit dough

1 cup white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, peanuts…whatever you want)

1/2 cup raisins

To start, remove your biscuits from the packaging and cut each biscuit into 4 pieces.  They don’t have to be uniform pieces, the more weird shapes you get, the better.  Now, mix your white sugar and cinnamon together in a plastic bag, then drop about 10 pieces of your cut biscuits into the bag and shake them well until they are coated.  Repeat this step until all of your ‘monkey’ pieces are coated.  Place all of the coated pieces into a buttered tube pan (cake mold).

In a saucepan on the stovetop, melt your butter and brown sugar together.  Add your raisins and choice of nuts to the mix and let them warm in the pan.

PRO TIP:  If this dessert is going to be served to ADULTS ONLY, add 2 ounces of Coffee liqueur to the mixture.

Pour this mixture on top of your dough and place in a preheated oven at 350 degrees.  Cook for 30 to 40 minutes.  Remove the dish from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.  Pop out the Monkey Bread from mold and serve it one of 2 ways.  You can let people just pull the bread off in tiny chunks from the bread, or you can slice it into serving portions, place in a bowl and top with Vanilla ice cream and Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Hope you enjoy this recipe and thanks for coming to tixxie.com!
